

This is Christel, a strong and inspiring 59-year-old woman who has been a member of CrossFit Linkeroever for four years. Since then, CrossFit has become part of her life — a sport she originally started on the recommendation of her daughter. Before that, she had already taken part in various group classes such as BodyPump, BBB, spinning and cardio, but CrossFit offered that extra bit of challenge she was looking for. After just one trial class, she was immediately hooked. What appealed to her most was the huge variety in workouts: a combination of strength, cardio and gymnastics, bringing together everything she loved into one sport.
Health and movement play an important role in her life. Her goal is to stay active for as long as possible, with as few injuries and age-related issues as possible, and to be able to live independently at home for as long as she can. CrossFit Linkeroever supports her in achieving this in many different ways.
“The box is so close to home for me that it really motivates me to train regularly. And the great community and coaches are definitely an added bonus!”
“The workouts that combine gymnastic movements and cardio. That variety makes every training session engaging and challenging. Cardio in particular gives me an incredibly good and fulfilling feeling afterwards.”
When we ask Christel what advice she has for anyone who has just started CrossFit, she shares this great tip:
“Start slowly and build up gradually. Listen to your body and focus on proper technique. That’s far more important than speed or weight, and it helps prevent injuries.”

But CrossFit is about more than just training, lifting weights and doing burpees. It’s all about the CrossFit community — and that’s something Christel values greatly as well:
“The community at CrossFit Linkeroever is amazing! Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, everyone truly cares about each other and there’s no ego. It really feels like a close-knit family.”
Finally, Christel would like to share an important message:
“Movement is incredibly important. Continuing to exercise and stay active is extremely beneficial for your recovery, for example after a serious illness or surgery. This is something I’ve experienced firsthand recently.”
